Accra, December 24th (Xinhua) -- The 15th anniversary celebration of the completion of the China Canada Friendship Hospital, which was built with Chinese aid, was held on the 23rd in Accra, the capital of Ghana. More than 300 people attended, including officials from both China and Canada, the 14th batch of Chinese aid medical teams to Ghana, and local medical personnel.

Li Yaohong, Counsellor of the Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, stated that in the past 15 years, the China Canada Friendship Hospital has developed from an ordinary medical institution to a regional medical center with significant advantages in minimally invasive surgery and cataract treatment, and multidisciplinary collaborative development.

With the assistance of the Chinese medical team, the hospital has successfully carried out multiple types of first high difficulty surgeries in Ghana and West Africa, such as cataract phacoemulsification surgery, laparoscopic endometrial cancer radical surgery, and laparoscopic cholecystectomy. In November, a laparoscopic and ophthalmic surgery training base was established. Li Yaohong stated that the embassy is working closely with the Ghanaian Ministry of Health to promote the upgrading of hospital facilities and equipment to the local advanced level.

Robert Amecia, Acting Director of the Health Department of Greater Accra, Ghana, said that the China Canada Friendship Hospital and the Chinese medical team have had a positive impact on the health of the local population, and the hospital has provided services to over 100000 patients. The medical director of the hospital, Akua Jima Asante, expressed gratitude to the Chinese government, people, and medical team.

The China Canada Friendship Hospital was completed and put into use in 2010. In 2015, the fifth batch of Chinese medical aid teams to Ghana arrived, becoming an important symbol of China Canada medical cooperation.
